Catherine’s background is in early stage venture capital, with multinational pharmaceutical industry experience both in Europe and the USA. She has significant expertise in founding, growing and exiting biotechnology and life science businesses. Catherine was awarded an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in June 2008 for services to innovation and technology.
Catherine has worked with a number of biotechnology companies to formulate and implement fundraising and business development strategies. Catherine was Chief Executive of Aitua, a private investment company which specialised in the commercialisation of intellectual property in the life sciences sector.
Catherine has been an Industry adviser to the BERR Bioscience working group, a mentor to Cambridge Entrepreneurs, an initiative to support early stage high tech business in the Eastern Region of England and is a regular speaker at master classes and conferences on founding and funding early stage businesses. Catherine is also a panel member for Scottish Enterprise’s Proof of Concept programme and was the Founding Chair of the BioIndustry Association’s Fledgling Company Committee
Earlier in her career, Catherine was Senior Director Medical Affairs, Europe at Du Pont Pharmaceuticals Limited and before this was Head of Medical Affairs UK Farmitalia Carlo Erba. After completing her clinical training Catherine also was Medical Adviser for Cardiovascular Products at Lederle Laboratories.
Catherine completed her Medical studies at the University of Birmingham Medical School. She is also a member of the UK Society of Investment Professionals and holds a full Financial Standards Association Investment Management certificate.
