When is it too early to have an STI Test in Hull?

All STIs have a period of time between your incident of concern (the sex you are worried about) and the time of your appointment to get the most accurate results.  This period is called the incubation period or window period.  Our times range from 10 to 28 days, depending on the STI and the testing method.

If you have symptoms, you can get tested earlier.  Especially if you have a visible wart or blemish or symptom that you would like swabbed to find out what it is.  If you have any discomfort in your genital area like pain when urinating or during sex, we suggest our comfort screen, which you can have if you have symptoms.

What happens if I have an STI?

If test positive, we will help you.  Better2Know will arrange for you to speak to our sexual health advisors and/ or doctors to get the right advice, medication or referral that you need.  Most STIs can be cured with medication that you can collect from your local pharmacy.  Included in your Better2Know service is the prescription so that you can start to get well as soon as you get your results.
