Popular STI tests and screens at our Shrewsbury sexual health clinic

We have a wide range of screens for sexually transmitted infections. Here are our more popular options in Shrewsbury:

  • Full Screen: Recommended by our doctors as the best overall STI check up.  It tests you for: HIV, Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea, Syphilis, Hepatitis B, Mycoplasma and Ureaplasma.

  • Peace of Mind Screen: A popular screen as you only need to wait 14 days since you had sex with a new partner for accurate test results. It tests you for: Syphilis, Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea

  • HIV 28-Day DUO Test: An accurate blood test that detects HIV I/II and the p24 antigen.

Book your appointment at a clinic near you by using the interactive map on this page.  Once you choose a clinic, you can view all testing options available.

Why do I have to wait for an STI test?

Most STIs are not detectable right away.  In order to get accurate results we suggest you wait for the incubation period.  The incubation period starts from the incident of concern (when you had sex, or had a blood injury) and ends at the time your sample is taken.  The incubation period varies from 10 to 28 days for Better2Know STI tests.  The exact time depends on the test and the testing method you choose. Some testing methods take longer, and some cost more than others.

If it has been less than 28 days since any incident you are concerned about, please call our sexual health advisors they will be able to help you with early testing or they can book your appointment for when your incubation period has passed

What do I do if my STI test is positive?

If your test result is positive, we will help you with the next stages.  We are experts in sexual health and we are here for you.  We can answer any questions that you have about the STI you have tested positive for and what it means for you.  We can help you tell your partners about your test (we have already written the words, making it easy for you).

We will then arrange a doctor’s consultation where you can get a prescription for any medication or referral that you need.  For STIs needing long-term care (such as HIV or Hepatitis or if you are pregnant), we can guide you on the next steps. We can also refer you to a specialist for treatment if needed.

To get more help about the testing process, contact our 24/7 Shrewsbury helpline to speak to our friendly Patient Services team.
