What is the main test for cholesterol?

The Better2Know Cholesterol test measures the level of cholesterol in your bloodstream. It is important that high cholesterol is detected, since high cholesterol can result in fatty deposits accumulating in your blood vessels which make it harder for blood to flow through your arteries. High cholesterol can ultimately result in strokes and heart attacks and does not usually have any clear signs or symptoms. The Better2Know cholesterol test can therefore be very valuable at spotting early signs of problems such as heart disease and diabetes, particularly if other people in your family have had high cholesterol or you are a smoker, or overweight.

How does this test work?

A blood sample is needed for the test to be run. A Better2Know clinician will take the blood sample for you and send it off to our fully accredited country laboratory for efficient and accurate analysis.

What tests will you run on my sample?

The cholesterol test assesses the sum of your blood’s cholesterol content – your cholesterol level.

How will I receive my test results?

The results from your Better2Know cholesterol test will be ready within one working day from when your blood sample arrives at our country laboratory. Once your results are ready, we will contact you. You will then be able to access your results online by logging into your secure patient area on our website at any time.

What should I do with my results?

When your results come back and if they indicate high cholesterol, we recommend discussing your results with a doctor. You could take your results to your doctor or Better2Know can organise a private doctor consultation for you, utilising our network of skilled doctors based around the country.
