Product Information

What is Gliadin?

Gliadin is a protein found in gluten. Gluten is found in the grains: wheat, barley and rye. It is common in cereal-based products and an additive in many other foods. Some people are intolerant of Gluten and have Coeliac Disease.

If you have a genetic predisposition to a gluten allergy and/ or Coeliac disease, the presence of Gliadin will trigger a response from your immune system. This is because your body sees Gluten as a foreign agent and produces autoantibodies as a defence mechanism. This effect can lead to inflammation and damage to the lining of the small intestine and problems with the absorption of nutrients from food.

Coeliacs may suffer from any of a number of symptoms including:

  • Bloating

  • Diarrhoea

  • Flatulence or excess wind

  • Unexplained weight loss.

As Gliadin can be produced for other reasons apart from Gluten intolerance, this test is often used in conjunction with a Tissue Transglutaminase IgA test for a more definitive result.

Why should I consider a Gliadin Antibody test?

Gliadin Antibody testing helps doctors to diagnose coeliac disease. Better2Know’s home test will detect the presence of gliadin autoantibodies. If you have active symptoms or a family history of Gluten intolerance or Coeliac disease, this test on its own or in conjunction with a Tissue Transglutaminase IgA test will help you to find out whether you need to see a doctor or nutritionist to discuss treatment.

What is the Better2Know home testing process?

Your gliadin antibody home test will provide fast, accurate results using a single blood sample. Better2Know’s home testing kit will include three finger prick lancets, skin wipes, a gold-topped blood collection tube, a pathology form and a postage-paid return envelope. When will my home testing kit arrive?

Better2Know will dispatch your home test kit via first class post. Tests purchased before 4pm, Monday to Friday, will be sent out on the same day. You can also upgrade to special delivery at checkout.

How will I receive my test results?

What should I do with my results?

Your results will detect the presence of antibodies associated with the Gliadin Protein. Better2Know can arrange private doctor’s consultations throughout the UK. You may also take your results to a healthcare provider of your choice. You may need further investigations to understand whether or not you have a Gluten Intolerance, and/ or may be asked to eliminate gluten from your diet to monitor your condition.
