What is a heart health screen?

Our heart health screen will evaluate your risk of cardiovascular diseases like heart attack, heart disease, or stroke. The screen incorporates tests for high density lipoproteins (HDL), low density lipoproteins (LDL), triglycerides and total cholesterol. Lipids and lipoproteins are a group of fats or fat-protein substances that are important cell components and sources of energy.

Why consider a heart health screen?

You may want to consider our screen if you have concerns about any of the following:

  • Long-term cardiovascular health

  • High blood pressure

  • Obesity

  • Diabetes

  • A previous heart attack

  • A family history of heart disease or diagnosed heart conditions.

How does this test work?

You will be required to provide a blood sample which we will collect from your arm. Once we have collected your sample, it will be sent to our accredited country laboratory for analysis.

What tests will be run on my sample?

Our screen will measure the following:

  • High-density lipoproteins (HDL)

  • Low-density lipoproteins (LDL)

  • Non-HDL cholesterol

  • Triglycerides

  • Cholesterol

How will I receive my test results?

Within one working day of your samples arrival at our accredited laboratory, you will be able to view your results in your secure online patient area. You can log into your patient area using the details we provide upon confirmation of booking. One of our Patient Services team will contact you as soon as all your results are ready.

What should I do with my results?

Your results will give you an indication of the level and ratio of important cardiovascular factors in your blood. If your test results are abnormal, you could be at risk of developing heart disease, and you should seek advice from a doctor. Better2Know can organise a consultation with one of our private doctors situated throughout the country. Your doctor will go through your results in greater detail and offer advice on lifestyle changes and treatment options.
