What is the INR (PT) test?

The INR (International Normalised Ratio) test, also called PT (Prothrombin Time), measures the time it takes for your blood to clot. This test is particularly important for people taking blood-thinning medications such as warfarin, or for those at risk of abnormal clotting or bleeding.

What are the symptoms of abnormal clotting?

Are there any risks with this test?

This is a routine blood test and is very safe. Most people experience only minor discomfort at the needle site.

Occasionally, mild bruising, tenderness, or slight light-headedness may occur. Serious complications are extremely rare. Seek medical advice if you feel unwell after the test.
