What is a Better2Know H. Pylori stomach ulcer test?
An H. Pylori infection is a common cause of stomach ulcers, where the H. Pylori bacteria damages the stomach lining, breaking down the layer that protects the stomach lining from stomach acid causing ulcers. Stomach ulcers are common and can affect people of any age but are most common in men over 60 years old. It is estimated that between 50% and 70% of all adults worldwide are infected with the H. Pylori bacteria.
Why consider an H. Pylori test to help detect a stomach ulcer?
An H. Pylori test is used to diagnose a Helicobacter pylori bacterial infection, which can cause several different digestive disorders, including gastritis, stomach ulcers and in some cases stomach cancers. How does this test work?
H. Pylori bacteria (the cause of an ulcer) is tested using a faeces (poo) sample. Once the faeces sample has been collected, simply follow the instructions provided in the kit and place it back in the prepaid postage envelope included for your sample to be sent to our accredited laboratory for analysis. You will receive your results within two working days.
What tests will you run on my sample?
Your faeces sample will be tested for H. Pylori antigens. The presence of antigens indicates that your body is infected with the H. Pylori bacteria.
When will my test kit arrive?
If ordered before 4 pm Monday-Friday, your test kit will be mailed the very same day using first-class postage and should arrive the next working day, depending on your location.
How will I receive my test results?
Your results will be available within three working days after your sample arrives at the lab. Better2Know will provide you with a confidential login code for our secure online patient login area, where you will be able to view your results once they are available. A member of our team will also contact you directly, to inform you when the results are in.
What should I do with my results?
