What is Uric Acid?
Uric acid is a chemical produced by the body to break down substances called purines, which are produced in the body. Purines are also present in foods such as sardines, liver, anchovies and beer. Too much uric acid can lead to the formation of crystals in your joints, leading to painful inflammation called gout, a form of arthritis. These crystals can also settle in the kidneys to form kidney stones.
