Product Information

What is the TPPA test for Syphilis?

The TPPA test (Treponema Pallidum Particle Agglutination) test is a confirmatory Syphilis test that specifically detects antibodies to the syphilis-causing bacteria. This test can also help to determine if your infection is in its secondary or tertiary phase.

This test is usually ordered after a positive result from a Syphilis screening test to verify whether the patient has a current and active Syphilis infection, or if the positive result obtained on the screening test was due to a past but now cured infection.

What is Syphilis?

Syphilis is a sexually transmitted infection that causes serious health problems if it is not diagnosed and treated promptly. Syphilis is most commonly transmitted through sexual contact including vaginal, anal and oral sex between two people. Syphilis can also be transmitted from mother to child. Syphilis is caused by a spirochete bacteria called Treponema pallidum.
