What does the Bilharzia Test identify?
Bilharzia is an infection by one of several different species of parasitic flatworm. The disease is most frequently found in sub-Saharan Africa, as well as across southern China and South America.
This test detects a substance known as Circulating Cathodic Antigen (CCA), which is released by adult worms and excreted in urine. All schistosome species produce this antigen, so a positive result signifies an active Bilharzia infection.

How does this test work?
Better2Know’s Bilharzia test identifies a specific antigen that is exclusive to schistosome worms. The adult worms release this antigen once they reach maturity and begin reproducing in your body. Since all species of these worms produce this antigen, the test can confirm an infection regardless of the worm type.
This test is best taken in the mid-morning using terminal urine following exercise. Details of your travel history will be useful in determining a diagnosis.
