What is a Diabetes Diagnostic Test?
This test measures your blood sugar levels to identify whether you may be at risk of diabetes. Diabetes occurs when your blood sugar levels are too high and can lead to further health complications including heart and kidney problems. It is important to identify diabetes as early as possible.
Why consider a Diabetes Diagnostic Test?
Type 2 diabetes is a metabolic disease that is becoming increasingly common across all ages. Up to one-third of adults in Ireland have pre-diabetes and are at risk of developing diabetes. Diabetes is caused by an interplay between lifestyle factors and genes. Lifestyle factors that increase the likelihood of developing diabetes include lack of exercise, unhealthy diet choices, and being overweight.
Symptoms of diabetes include:
Frequent urination
Fatigue
Unexpected weight loss
Feeling thirsty all the time
If you have any of the above symptoms, or you are concerned that you may have diabetes, you should consider this test.
