Product Information

What is FSH?

The female reproductive system is developed and regulated by hormones. One of these hormones is the The Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH), which primarily maintains menstrual cycles and ovarian follicle growth, the latter of which produces progesterone and oestrogen in the ovaries. Progesterone crucially prepares the uterus to receive a fertilized egg. FSH also plays an important part in reproductive gland development and sperm production in men.

When FSH levels are too low, women experience menstrual irregularities and men have lower sperm production. Young boys may experience delayed puberty as a result of low FSH levels, and young girls may experience early onset of puberty if FSH levels are too high.

Why consider an FSH test?

By taking the Better2Know FSH test, men and women can identify potential fertility issues that will affect them in time. Ovarian and sperm production failure can result from certain FSH levels. An FSH test is also beneficial to those with irregular periods, as it can help eliminate menopause or ovarian failure as potential catalysts.

Explain the Better2Know Your Body testing process?

This test kit will provide everything you need to collect a blood sample from home and send it to one of our accredited Ireland labs for analysis. It includes a pre-paid postage envelope, three finger prick lancets, a blood collection tube, a pathology form, and antiseptic skin wipes. You will also receive specific instructions to complete the sample yourself.

When does my test kit arrive?

If you order the kit before end of business hours Monday-Friday, it will be sent out on the same day via An Post. It should reach you in 2 to 4 workdays, depending on where you reside.

How do I receive my test results?

You receive test results within one workday after our lab receives the sample, and you can view them as soon as they’re available at your secure patient portal on our website. In addition, a member of our Patient Services team will contact you directly via email or phone to discuss your results.

What should I do about my test results?

If your results detect atypical FSH levels, Better2Know can help arrange a private consultation with a skilled doctor in your area to further discuss next steps. You may also schedule your own appointment with a GP of your choice.
