Product Information

Mumps IgM Antibody Test

This Better2Know Mumps Antibody IgM test will identify if you have a current or recent Mumps infection. IgM Antibodies typically occur soon after a Mumps infection and can also occur soon after a Mumps vaccination. Mumps IgM Antibodies will persist for a short period of time (up to several weeks after the onset of any symptoms) but will decline and disappear over time, to be replaced by IgG Antibodies which will persist for years. The presence of IgG Mumps Antibodies indicates immunity to Mumps.

What is Mumps?

Mumps is an infectious disease caused by the Mumps virus. Mumps is often associated with childhood infection, but it can also infect people of any age if they have not been exposed to the virus before. Symptoms of a Mumps infection include swollen salivary glands, fever, acute fatigue, a loss of appetite, muscle aches and headaches. Swollen salivary glands are one of the most common symptoms associated with a Mumps infection. This swelling can cause pain and discomfort under the jaw and around the ear. Whilst most Mumps cases do present with symptoms, not all infected people will experience them. Some individuals will have a Mumps infection and have no symptoms at all.

How does this test work?

This Mumps IgM Antibody test requires only a small sample of blood that will be drawn from your arm. This blood sample will be sent to our fully accredited laboratory for analysis and the results will be ready within one day of your sample being received by our laboratory.
