Product Information

What is the Tissue Transglutaminase IgA antibody test?

People who possess a genetic predisposition to Coeliac Disease produce antibodies called Tissue Transglutaminase Antibodies (TTAs). When Coeliac Disease causes the body to identify gluten proteins as foreign substances, a response from the immune system is triggered in which antibodies are sent to attack the foreign matter. This results in inflammation and long-term damage of the small intestine, which can cause further issues with time.

Wheat, rye, and barley contain gluten. Many believe that relatives of a person with Coeliac Disease are at an increased risk of developing the disorder.

Those with Coeliac Disease may suffer from a variety of symptoms, including:

  • Flatulence or excess wind

  • Unexplained weight loss

  • Bloating

  • Diarrhoea

Our TTA test is a sensitive method for diagnosing Coeliac Disease. For more accurate results and analysis, we often use the gliadin test in conjunction with the TTA test.

Why consider a Gluten Intolerance Test?

The Better2Know test on its own or in addition to the gliadin test can help if you suffer from any of the symptoms or are related to someone with Coeliac Disease. Once you know more, we can help you schedule consultations with a nutritionist or doctor to further discuss and manage this disease.

Explain the Better2Know home test kit process?

You will receive our testing kit and provide the necessary testing components from home. Included in our kit is a blood sample, a blood collection tube, a pre-paid envelope, a pathology form, three-finger prick lancets, and antiseptic wipes. Using these tools, you will follow the instructions provided and send your sample to one of our accredited labs throughout Ireland, where we will quickly process the sample to provide you with accurate results.

When will my test kit arrive?

When you order the Tissue Transglutaminase IgA test kit before end of business hours Monday-Friday, it will be sent out that same day. If you wish to track your package, you are welcome to select Special Delivery at checkout. It should reach you in 2 to 4 workdays, depending on your location.

How do I receive my test results?

Two days after our lab receives your sample, your results will be ready. Our Patient Services team will contact you directly to relay your confidential results. You are also welcome to login and check your secure patient portal on our website for the results, which will immediately become available once ready.

What should I do with the results of my test?

If the test indicates that TTAs are present in your blood, you should further discuss your results with a doctor or GP. Better2Know can help arrange a private consultation with any of our skilled doctors or nutritionists throughout Ireland. During this meeting, you can discuss next steps. You can also meet with a healthcare provider or doctor of your choice to discuss your results.

If your results indicate Coeliac Disease, you may be referred for more testing and examination. In addition, healthcare professionals often advise people with this disorder to remove gluten from their diets.
