Product Information

Genital Wart Removal (Cryotherapy)

When you arrive for your confidential appointment at one of our private sexual health clinics. You will be seen by a private doctor. Your Better2Know doctor will examine the warts that require treatment and answer your queries, should you have any.

Liquid nitrogen is used for this form of Genital Wart removal. The warts are frozen to destroy the diseased tissue. The Cryotherapy process will be explained by your doctor before the treatment begins. During the removal, you may feel a mild burning sensation.

After the Genital Wart treatment, you may experience a little discomfort in the location of the wart, slight blistering or skin irritation. Your skin can take between one to three weeks to heal. You are advised to take care of the treated areas to help prevent infection. Additionally, you should avoid having sex until the area of skin around the wart has completely healed.

In some cases, you may require repeat treatments to maintain results.

How do you catch Genital Warts?

Most cases of Genital Warts are caused by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) – particularly types 6 and 11. HPV is a group of viruses with over 100 different strains. It is an extremely common sexually transmitted infection that does not often show symptoms. As a result, many people remain unaware they have been infected.

HPV is usually transmitted through unprotected sexual contact, including vaginal sex, anal sex, and in some cases, oral sex. The infection can also be passed on through skin-to-skin contact alone, as well as through sex toys that have not been cleaned before and after use.

Preventing Genital Warts

Using barrier methods such as condoms or dental dams during any sexual activity will help reduce the risk of catching STIs such as Genital Warts. You can also get vaccinated to protect yourself against types of HPV that often cause cases of Genital Warts and certain cancers.
