The report also revealed that diagnoses of both Syphilis and Chlamydia – Britain’s most common STI – had risen in the capital over the last 12 months. Overall, the number of infections had actually fallen by five per cent, including a sizeable drop in new cases of Gonorrhoea, something which prompted PHE’s London Director, Dr Yvonne Doyle, to claim that the city had “turned the tide”.
