What is the Incubation Period?

If you had sex with someone last night, we would not be able to reliably diagnose you with an STI from that encounter today. We have to wait a minimum period of time. That time is called the incubation period. That time varies depending on the STI you want to test for and the testing method.

Our incubation times for our STI tests range from 10 to 28 days. If you have symptoms, you can choose not to wait.

If you test sooner than the incubation period, any positive test is accurate, but a negative test will only rule out infection before that period. It can be helpful to know the time in which you might have got any infection. This is to help to notify only your sexual partners that might be at risk.
