We do three HIV tests in Jersey :
- Early Detection with Hepatitis B and C
- 4th Generation Test
- 5th Generation Test
The Early Detection Screen will give you results just ten days after any incident that you are concerned about. It is a blood test, and 96% accurate. Results will take three working days from when your sample is received in the laboratory. We would suggest a further test at 8 to 12 weeks.
The 4th generation test will give you accurate results 28 days after any incident that you are concerned about (99.8% accurate). It tests for the p24 antigen and the HIV 1 and 2 antibodies. Your results will be available the same day your sample is received in the laboratory.
The 5th generation test is similar to the 4th generation test, except that it also reports each of the p24 antigen, HIV1 and HIV 2 antibodies separately. The results take a little longer and will be back the day after your sample is received in the laboratory.
In Jersey, all our samples go to our Laboratory in London by aeroplane, so morning appointments are preferred to make sure your sample gets to the laboratory as quickly as possible.
