At Better2Know we are often asked about training to improve the knowledge of the health care teams we work with.  As well as our own internal training programmes, leaflets and manuals there are also several external courses that can earn you credit towards a recognised qualification (while we work on ours!).

Manchester Metropolitan University runs a CRASH course – Contraception and Sexual Health.  There are two courses each worth 10 credits of a University degree.  The first is a theory-based course with five teaching days in March and April every year and covers:

  • client choice
  • collaborative working with public health practitioners, other agencies and organisations
  • Current UK policy and strategy
  • anatomy and physiology
  • the reproductive cycle
  • methods of contraception including LARCS
  • health protection
  • promotion and education
  • client self-management
  • STI screening
  • young people
  • relevant public health issues

The second half of the course is practice-based and is based at an organisation where you can put what you learnt into the theory stage into practice.

Successful completion of both courses means that you are trained and competent in Sexual Health.
